City ordinance requires the Income Tax Administrator to collect city income taxes from individuals and businesses. The city began levying this tax in 1967. Voters approved the tax to help fund the growing demand for city services.
The Income Tax division processes about 40,000 annual income tax returns from residents, nonresidents, partnerships, and corporations. The department also records and monitors taxes that employers withhold from their employees’ wages and conducts annual compliance programs.
